A new intruder alarm and smoke detection system installed in unoccupied nurses' accommodation in Kent, is not only cheaper than the system it replaced, but more advanced too.
Commercial property management specialist, Workman contracted Minerva Integrated Security Services Limited to install a new wireless intruder alarm and smoke detection system for a Kent-based property in the company's portfolio.
The building, which was used as nurses' accommodation, is located in the grounds of Stone House Hospital, Dartford. Originally built as a mental institution in the 1860's, and located in the heart of the Thames Gateway growth area, Stone House Hospital has been replaced by a new hospital close-by, and the old buildings are now the subject of a re-development and refurbishment plan for a residential development.
Whilst a decision on the now redundant accommodation is being made, Workman were keen to replace the existing expensive alarm system with one which was more cost effective and would protect the unoccupied building from vandals and squatters.
Having surveyed the property which comprises 19 flats plus common area, Minerva suggested a wireless intruder alarm and smoke detection system that would alert the Workman team, via text message, to any breaches in security and act as a smoke detection system at the same time. As a result, Minerva installed a Honeywell Galaxy G2 system to provide a deterrent, detect any intruders entering the building and give an alert to fire. The new system works with a wireless portal and 20 wireless Passive Infra-Red sensors (PIR's), whilst smoke heads are located throughout the building. Should the building's protection be breached or a fire occur, the Workman team is informed by text message, via s GSM module, providing detailed information of the problem, the affected zone and the time the alarm was activated.
Stephen Butler, regional facilities manager for Workman contacted Minerva to undertake the work and said "Minerva has undertaken a fair amount of work previously, and because the building is empty and not providing an income, we needed to replace the existing alarm system with one which would be cheaper and more suitable for an unoccupied building. Minerva came up with a system that is not only cheaper, but is more advanced than the previous system and provides a very effective deterrent and detection system for this building".
Honeywell Galaxy G2 system
This fully hybrid system supports both hardwired and wireless peripherals, SMS text signalling to up to three mobile numbers, and features automated remote diagnostics and servicing connections - allowing the system to be re-configured and maintained remotely. This Honeywell system was chosen for the Stone House building because it is currently unoccupied. The ability to receive alerts automatically through text messaging, allows Workman to be confident that should a fire break out, or a breach of security occur, up to three members of its team will be alerted immediately through a text message on their mobile phones.
